Arya Derm
The founders of Arya Derm, an innovative new medical dermatology practice, sought an interior design concept for their flagship location that would support and further the Arya Derm brand. The inspiration for Arya Derm comes from the name itself, meaning “Noble, Precious, and Pure.” Taking cues from the brand concept, Jackson Liles Architecture converted an entire floor of a 1922 6-story historic building just steps from Union Square in San Francisco to create the new flagship location for Arya Derm.
Beginning with a shell of a space consisting of exposed wood framing, concrete structural columns and beams, and steel seismic bracing, Jackson Liles Architecture converted the dark, empty space into a modern, high tech, sophisticated and spa like environment for the new practice. The project incorporates the existing building’s raw concrete, wood, and steel structural elements and sensitively inserts new architectural features highlighting the use of walnut plywood, aluminum, quartz surfaces, and the spare use of strong accent colors. The innovative floor plan maximizes the relatively small floorplate to create efficient, light filled and airy circulation spaces between the reception area, 6 exam rooms, the doctor’s office, medical assistant offices, and support areas. Walnut plywood accents are highlighted throughout the space in the custom reception desk, the feature wall, at window seats and at the sliding exam room doors. It was a privilege to design a new space for this amazing client who had ambitious goals for opening her own practice; congratulations to Dr. Lavanya Krishnan on her new practice and office.
